Message From the President - Ambassador David F. Girard-diCarlo, Ret.

The elements of a good organization most often are readily apparent: functions are fulfilled, missions are achieved and, in general, things get done – on time, on budget, and well. But the elements of a great organization are not as easily discernable. A great organization reflects a sense of mutuality, shared aspirations, joint and collegial effort, shared mission, and a devotion to value creation with a purpose to serve.

The Pennsylvania Society, which is now my great honor and privilege to lead, is such an organization. Now more than eleven decades old, The Pennsylvania Society has endured the trials of multiple generations. Born on the eve of the previous century, in 1899, The Pennsylvania Society has demonstrated its ability not only to adjust and survive, but also to thrive. For thousands of members, for men and women from all walks of life, over these eleven decades, The Pennsylvania Society has served as a common ground. By shining a light on the Commonwealth’s historic and distinguished past, The Society has shown the way to a bright future.

To all of those who have preceded me, I extend my gratitude and thanks. To the members of Council and to our Executive Director, I extend my appreciation for your commitment and dedicated service to our Society. I look forward to working with you, and with all members of The Society, over the next few years as we strive to build a better future together.
